How long does coffee last at room temperature?

The storage time of brewed coffee at room temperature (about 20°C~25°C) depends on whether other ingredients (such as milk, sugar, etc.) are added. Usually, the flavor will be damaged after 4-6 hours; the following will tell you more about the best tasting time of some coffee.

First of all, we need to classify coffee. Different coffees have different storage times.

The safe drinking time of black coffee (no added sugar/milk) is no more than 8 hours (at room temperature). After 2 hours, it starts to become sour, the aroma is lost, and the taste gradually becomes bland.

The safe drinking time of coffee containing milk or sugar (latte, cappuccino, etc.): no more than 2 hours (at room temperature). Milk and sugar are ideal culture media for bacteria (such as E. coli and Salmonella), so it is best not to exceed 2 hours; and high-temperature milk coffee (such as steam milk foam) is more risky after cooling. If you find stratification, sour smell, clots or floating film on the surface, you can no longer drink it.

Iced coffee (with ice cubes or taken out after refrigeration) is placed at room temperature. After the ice cubes melt, it is judged according to the type of milk/sugar. It is recommended to drink it within 1 hour.

So what if we can extend the shelf life of coffee?

Refrigerate the brewed coffee immediately: Brewed black coffee can be sealed and refrigerated for 24 hours (the flavor will still decline); milky coffee can be refrigerated for no more than 12 hours. However, even if refrigerated, milky coffee is not recommended to be consumed overnight.
